Eternal Sunday presents Headlights, the third studio album (containing original songs) by the powerpop band The Kavanaghs from Rosario, Argentina. The band has gone trough some changes since Love Conquers Pain, from 2011. Singer/ guitar player Alejandro Pin is gone, so drummer Seba Cairo took his place at the guitar and new member Franco Barbieri replaced Seba on drums. In this album, half of the songs were written by Seba Cairo and half by Tiago Galíndez, who wrote most of the songs that appear on the Kavanaghs first two albums. Tiago himself is dividing his time between The Kavanaghs and his solo project (in Spanish) Tiago & Los Pájaros.
Some things have changed in six years, but what stays is the wonderful Kavanaghs signature powerpop sound,
a combination of the classic 60s British rock with a touch of 90s
britpop and current indie rock. The catchy choruses are there, as well
as the vocal harmonies and the radio friendly sound. Headlights on, The Kavanaghs are back for good.
Eternal Sunday presents Love Conquers Pain Live,the album that captures the magical night (September 19, 2011) in which The Kavanaghs performed at the Sala Lavarden theatre in their home city, Rosario, Argentina, to present their newest album, Love Conquers Pain.
The recording shows the band playing at it best for their own public. The album contains 15 tracks, the whole Love Conquers Pain album plus some songs taken form their debut album The Kavanaghs.
Tiago Galíndez es un músico, cantante y compositor oriundo de Rosario, Argentina. Se hizo conocido en la escena local liderando la banda powerpop con canciones en inglés The Kavanaghs, con la que ha girado por Europa y Estados Unidos, pero antes de formar The Kavanaghs tuvo una etapa solista que quedó plasmada en su álbum Hoy, que permaneció muchos años inédito.
Hoynos muestra una cara más personal de Tiago, y quizás más adolecente e idealista. Musicalmente no disimula las infuencias de la trova rosarina, especialmente de Fito Páez, y las canciones hablan de un joven sensible entrando en la adultez en una ciudad que no siempre lo contiene. Amor, soledad, confusión, preguntas y reflexiones acerca de la vida se combinan en el álbum de quien sin duda será recordado como uno de los grandes compositores de su
generación, que nos demuestra que las buenas canciones no tienen limitaciones de idioma ni de estilos, y que nunca se es demasiado joven para componerlas.

The Kavanaghs are one of Argentina’s top powerpop bands, having

In the last weeks artists from Eternal Sunday have performed and toured in foreign countries. Valerio Rinaldi gave a killer show in Miami, USA at Novecento sponsored by cerveza Quilmes.The Kavanaghs performed at the Culture Collide festival in California as part of their USA tour, that included also cities like Cleveland, Fresno, Des Moines and Washington DC. Jim Bonfanti, legendary drummer for The Rapsberries, performed some gigs as a guest. Baby Scream, Juan Pablo Mazzola's project, is currently in Berlin, Germany, recording new material, performing live and shooting music videos.

The powerpop band from RosarioThe Kavanaghs was announced as one of the international bands that'll perform at Culture Collide, the famous annual festival organized by Filter Magazine. They'll be the only band from Argentina, as usual.
Maybe now the retarded local festival organizers will start looking at these bands with more respect.

The film is based on the web
series El Vagoneta, one of the first Argentinean web series, that
had more than two million followers online. It tells the story of
four friends that, in order not to work anymore, build a billboard
sign on a house terrace. The soundtrack includes two songs by The
Kavanaghs, "Hyde Park" y "Cat In Town", taken from their Eternal Sunday debut The Kavanaghs.

As they do every year, The Kavanaghs give away a Christmas single. It is the turn of Kinda Cool, a two- tracks one, "Kinda Cool" (written by Sebas Cairo) and "A Lighthouse In The Night" (by Tiago Galíndez). The single can be downloaded for free from at The Kavanaghs' Soundcloud page.

An article by Eternal Sunday's director Emiliano Canal was published today at Virgin.com's music blog (UK). Its is called How walking the extra mile helps new artistsand mentions two Eternal Sunday artists, The Kavanaghs and Baby Scream.
"Somehow Love Conquers Pain is The Kavanaghs' first album", says bass player, singer and composer Tiago Galíndez in the video documentary that comes with the CD version of the album, the bands' second one containing original material (besides the releases Christmas Again (Single) and the covers EP This Is Where We Come From). "In our first album [The Kavanaghs, 2009, ES 2215] we wanted to sound and to look retro. We wanted to be like our heroes, like the bands that influenced us. There's a change in this new album". Their debut album deliberately sounded (almost) like it was recorded in the 60's. Guitars without effects, Beatle basslines, lo fi drums, acoustic pianos, clean voices in the middle of the stereo image. In Love Conquers Pain the band seems to want to tell us that they grew tired of being compared to their idols and took to the studio all the gear they didn't use for the first album: guitar pedals, digital effects, subtle synthesizer lines, elaborated vocal arrangements and post-disco music drum patterns. Luckily, the musical and songwriting talent they shown on the first album were kept.
Love Conquers Painopens with the single "Tonight", a fast and powerful song with a little bit of The Strokes' guitars. It is followed by "Come On (Before The Wind)", written by the drummer Seba Cairo, the slower "It's Real" and "Emma Peel", the first direct reference to the 60s, the swinging London and classic pop culture (Emma Peel was the fictitious name of the girl from The Avenger classic TV series). Then there's a ballad, "Something's About To Happen", the powerful "That's All You Need To Know", that should be a hit single, "Those Days", again written and sung by drummer Seba Cairo, "About Tomorrow", reflexive and almost melancholic, sung by Tiago. Track 9 is another composition by Seba Cairo, "I Need A Pity Day"; track 10, an almost 70's funky song, crossed by guitar lines so processed that they resemble synth lines, "Last Dance", that gives way to another ballad, "Away From All We Know", that keeps growing till it reaches a Hey Jude-like final chorus full of voices. The last two tracks are the hyper catchy and radial "Love Scripts", pure powerpop with 60's tambourines, and the quiet "Waiting For The Times To Change".
This last song, relaxed and careless in which the main character seems to adopt a passive philosophy, is a strange way to finish an album that The Kavanaghs have made a conscious effort for it to be unforgettable. The CD version of the album comes as a 7'' deluxe digipak (the size of a vinyl single disc) that comes with a high quality booklet with pictures taken by Elio Truant and Ruben Abud in which the band walks around a wheat field outside of Rosario, their home town. The same effort and dedication was given to the music video for "Tonight" in which the members of the band play cards for a lot of money until a girl gets between them and causes a car chase at a famous Rosario tunnel. We like to bet high, The Kavanaghs seem to say in a subtle way, the same way we bet high by making this second album, improving the sound, the voices, the mastering, the pictures, the packaging and everything that depends on us. We are a today band, not one from the 60s, and we want to reach today people with a modern and accessible sound.
We come from Rosario, Argentina, but we want to conquer the world. If there's any justice in the land of pop music, sooner or later The Kavanaghs will. In the meantime, let's have some fun listening to Love Conquers Pain.

"De alguna manera Love Conquers Pain es el primer disco de The Kavanaghs",comenta el bajista, cantante y compositor Tiago Galíndez en el video documental que acompaña la versión en CD del álbum, el segundo en la carrera de la banda conteniendo canciones originales (además de los lanzamientos digitales Christmas Again (Single) y el EP de covers This Is Where We Come From). "Con el primer álbum [The Kavanaghs, 2009, ES 2215] queríamos lograr algo retro, tanto en lo musical como en la imagen. Queríamos sonar como nuestros héroes, nuestras influencias. En este segundo álbum, hay un cambio".
El álbum debut sonaba deliberadamente casi como si hubiera sido grabado en los '60. Guitarras sin efectos, bajo Beatle, baterías mediosas, pianos acústicos, voces limpias en el centro. En Love Conquers Pain la banda parece querer decirnos que se cansaron de ser comparados con sus ídolos y llevaron al estudio todo lo que no habían usado: los pedales de guitarra, los efectos digitales, los sutiles trazos del sintetizador, los tracks vocales elaborados, los ritmos de baterías post música disco. Por suerte, el talento compositivo e interpretativo que habían demostrado en el primer álbum se mantuvo intacto.
Love Conquers Pain abre con el single de difusión, "Tonight", un tema rápido y potente que recuerda en algo a The Strokes. Siguen "Come On (Before The Wind)", compuesta por el baterista Seba Cairo, la más tranquila "It's Real" hasta que llega "Emma Peel", la primer referencia directa real a los '60, al swinging London y a la cultura pop clásica (Emma Peel era el nombre de ficción de la chica de la serie The Avengers, Los Vengadores). Siguen una balada, "Something's About To Happen", la poderosa "That's All You Need To Know" (que debería ser un hit), "Those Days", compuesta y cantada por el baterista Seba Cairo, "About Tomorrow", reflexiva y algo melancólica, cantada por Tiago. El track 9 es otra composición de Seba Cairo, "I Need A Pity Day"; el 10, un tema casi funky con un aire setentoso cruzado por guitarras tan procesadas que suenan como sintetizadores: "Last Dance", que da paso a otra balada "Away From All We Know", que va armándose épicamente hasta un final repleto de coros a lo Hey Jude. Los dos últimos tracks son la híper pegadiza y radial "Love Scripts", acompañada de panderetas bien sixties, y la tranquila "Waiting For The Times To Change".
Esta última canción, relajada y despreocupada en la que el protagonista adopta una postura pasiva, es una extraña forma de terminar un álbum en el que The Kavanaghs se han esforzado conscientemente por que sea inolvidable. La versión en CD del álbum viene en un digipak deluxe de 7'' (el tamaño de un single de vinilo de 45 RPM) que viene acompañado de un booklet de alta calidad con fotos de Elio Truant y Ruben Abud en los que la banda vaga por un campo de trigo en las afueras de Rosario, su ciudad natal. El mismo cuidado y esfuerzo se puso en la realización de un costoso videoclip de "Tonight", en el cuál los miembros juegan a las cartas por mucho dinero hasta que una mujer se entremete entre ellos y provoca una persecución a los tiros por un emblemático túnel rosarino. Nos gusta apostar fuerte, parece decir la banda en forma sutil y entrelíneas, así como apostamos fuerte en este segundo álbum, mejorando el sonido, las voces, el mástering, las fotos, el packaging y todo lo que depende de nosotros. Somos una banda de hoy, no de los '60, y queremos llegar a la gente de hoy con un sonido moderno y accesible.
Somos de Rosario, Argentina, parecen agregar, pero queremos conquistar el mundo. Si hay justicia en el mundo de la música pop, The Kavanaghs lograrán su objetivo tarde o temprano. Mientras tanto, disfrutemos escuchando Love Conquers Pain.
