03/ 2019 New release: Softcore Express – Peter Gunn

Eternal Sunday presents yet another killer electronic cover version by Softcore Express, this time the inmortal instrumental Peter Gunn. The piece was composed by the legendary Henry Mancini for the first original detectiver series for TV, Peter Gunn (1958), created by Blake Edwards (who also created the Pink Panther, which would also use music by Mancini). Along the years several versions of Peter Gunn were released. The original one, a guitar-based one by Duane Eddy,  a very well known version by Emerson, Lake And Palmer, arranged as progressive rock in the 70s, and a nice electropop version by the Art Of Noise during the 80s, made using samplers and top technology of the time (this version won a Grammy award). Now, Softcore Express releases a version for the new generations, arranged in the usual synthpop/ synthwave style using analog synthesizers.

03/ 2019 New release: Canal Pop – Not Mister Right: An Introduction To Canal Pop

Eternal Sunday proudly presents Not Mister Right: An Introduction To Canal Pop, an album that compiles some of the best songs recorded by Canal Pop, the synthpop music project led by songwriter and producer Emiliano Canal (who also happens to be the label’s director), from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

“I spent these last years devoted full time to the record label” Emiliano explains “so my artistic project Canal Pop was not my priority, when I had some free time I recorded some songs and released them but without the time or energy to come up with a proper campaign. And it was a shame, because some of the songs that Canal Pop released were good and deserved better luck with the public”.

This doesn’t mean that Canal Pop’s songs went unnoticed these years. Canal Pop is well known in the synthpop/ electropop global underground scene and specialized portals like Side Line (Belgium) and others write about him on a regular basics. Songs and remixed by Canal Pop have been released in compilations by labels and pages like Side Line and Alfa Matrix (Belgium), Sector44 (USA), Ninthwave (USA) and Electrozombies (Germany) (as well as by Eternal Sunday, Emiliano’s label).

Not Mister Right: An Introduction To Canal Pop features 13 original tracks, and all of the songs are a proper sample of Canal Pop’s style: classic electropop arrangements and production, catchy radio-friendly choruses, crystal-clear voiced professionally produced and plays of words in the lyrics (in English, which is not bad considering that Emiliano is from Buenos Aires, Argentina, where people speak Spanish). The lyrics are about falling in love, being yourself, infatuation, electricity, being cool in Japan, dancing alone, girls who want to learn new things and girls that really enjoy phone calls.

Several amazing singers collaborated with Canal Pop over the years and all of them are present here: Gaby Laguzzi, New York City’s Bea Conenna, Polette (who shared stages with the likes of Deep Purple and Shakira), Josefina Aufranc and recently with teen singer and TV actress Pauli Cugnata. “All of them are amazing professional singers with thousands of hours of live and studio work” says Emiliano, “I’m very proud of the girls I work with. Besides, they’re all very pretty”.

All the songs were produced by Emiliano Canal except for the opening track “I Want You (To Be My Baby)”, which was produced by producer Osi Tejerina (who also directs a record label in Buenos Aires). 9 of the songs are featured in 2019 versions, with an improved sound. “Future Nights” was commercially unreleased (only as part of a free compilation).

“A new Canal Pop period is beginning”, says Emiliano. “New songs, new singers, bigger and better plans”. In the meantime, the world can listen to Not Mister Right: An Introduction To Canal Pop to catch the mood.

Eternal Sunday presents another single by synthpop artist Canal Pop, this time featuring the beautiful and young singer and actress Pauli Cugnata on vocals. The song is called “Let’s Move” and it’s an ironic look at someone who feels that his or her life must go on somewhere else. As usual, the production features a classic synthpop/ synthwave arrangement with lots of analog synthesizers sounds. Two remixes were added to the single, both by DJ and producer German Kreff.

08/ 2017 New Release: The Kavanaghs – Headlights

Eternal Sunday presents Headlights, the third studio album (containing original songs) by the powerpop band The Kavanaghs from Rosario, Argentina. The band has gone trough some changes since Love Conquers Pain, from 2011. Singer/ guitar player Alejandro Pin is gone, so drummer Seba Cairo took his place at the guitar and new member Franco Barbieri replaced Seba on drums. In this album, half of the songs were written by Seba Cairo and half by Tiago Galíndez, who wrote most of the songs that appear on the Kavanaghs first two albums. Tiago himself is dividing his time between The Kavanaghs and his solo project (in Spanish) Tiago & Los Pájaros.

Some things have changed in six years, but what stays is the wonderful Kavanaghs signature powerpop sound, a combination of the classic 60s British rock with a touch of 90s britpop and current indie rock. The catchy choruses are there, as well as the vocal harmonies and the radio friendly sound. Headlights on, The Kavanaghs are back for good.

08/ 2017 New release: Plastic Orgasm People – Falling

Eternal Sunday presents Falling, a single by Plastic Orgasm People, (Emiliano Canal’s first band with singer Alejandro Marino, before starting Canal Pop).  The song was originally recorded in 1996 along with other two songs, “The Collective Song” and “Let It Rain”, but for some reason these two made it into the band’s debut EP, The Meaning (Of Love) while “Falling” was not included. Falling” is a perfect example of Emiliano Canal’s distinctive style of pop composition and shows Alejandro Marino’s singing talent at full. The guitar was played by the late Lapo Gessaghi, a very well known (and loved) 90’s session player and studio owner.

The song is highly unusual because there were almost no recording of Argentinean bands singing in English at the time, thus making Plastic Orgasm People (AKA POP) truly pioneers.

Thoough it was not released commercially, the song was featured in some Internet portals like the old Mp3.com and ranked high at the site charts.
